Types of documents in this collection include correspondence, hand-copied excerpts of genealogical, biographical, and historical texts, and hand-written notes on said texts. Most of this research was performed to verify membership into the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Two typescript narrative histories of West Virginia towns compiled and apparently written by W.B. Haught in 1920. A 76-page narrative history of Monongalia County, West Virginia, chiefly covers the Colonial period, beginning with the Huron Iroquois inhabiting the land in the early 1700s and continuing through the late 1800s. A second typescript centers on the history of Blacksville, West Virginia, from its Colonial beginnings in the 1770s to the end of the nineteenth century. This item contains a brief narrative history of the town as well as information about land lots, church records, and marriage and funeral records. Both documents are photocopies

Also includes correspondence and other material regarding the opening of Richwood Avenue in Morgantown, which was constructed by the Works Progress Administration.

Newspaper clippings saved and preserved by Virginia DeRigo, a resident of Star City. The clippings, unsorted, relate mainly to marriages and deaths of Italian-Americans in Morgantown, Star City, and Westover, including many prominent local political figures and businessmen. Other topics include World War II (WWII) draftees, soldiers, casualties, and servicemen news; Vietnam casualties; accidental deaths; and Star City elections. There are also many funeral cards.

Photocopy of the marriage certificate of William Joseph and Sarah Stafford dated 1766. At the time of their marriage, the couple lived in Sussex County, Delaware. The couple moved to Monongalia County about 1770 and lived the rest of their lives in Morgantown.

Historical research material collected by William Rice from ca. 1975-2015, mostly relating to the history of western Virginia and southeastern West Virginia, the Upper Potomac River basin, and particularly Elkins and Randolph County. There are three record series including subject files (boxes 1-4), miscellaneous research files (boxes 4-5), and family histories (boxes 5-16). Subject files are arranged alphabetically and cover many topics ranging from early settlement, the formation of cities and counties, wars, etc. Miscellaneous research files regard the War of 1812 and the Civil War in connection with western Virginia, among other material. Family history files are arranged alphabetically by last name; they document mostly eighteenth-century settlers of what was once Augusta County, Virginia.
