An act passed by the General Assembly on 18 March 1856 appropriated $1,000 for "repairs and fixtures" for the capitol building. This series contains receipts and vouchers for the work done. Each receipt contains the date, the amount received, the name of the person from whom the money was received, and the reason for the payment. The vouchers include the names of persons to whom money was owed, the amounts, and the dates the vouchers were submitted.

This series consists of printed general orders concerning uniforms and requiring certification that militia units are properly uniformed before arms are issued. The orders prescribe the proper uniform for artillery, cavalry, infantry, and riflemen.

Contains correspondence to and from Richard M. Heath, state appointee for Mexican War Virginia volunteers. Correspondents include Virginia Governors John Buchanan Floyd, and Joseph Johnson, primarily in the 1850s. Warrants, accounts, and vouchers from 1846-1853 concern the first regiment of Virginia Volunteers. Stationed primarily in Buena Vista, Coahuila, Mexico, captains included James F. Preston, Smith P. Bankhead, and Edward Carrington (see Accession 21057 for more). The pay and muster Rolls are in an oversized folder and begin in 1847.

This collection is comprised of thirty-four items, of which there are four types of documents. An account relating to Graves V. Scott, undated; one Court Transcript relating to the capture of the HMS Kingfish[er], 1779, August; thirty-one Decrees, 1777, 1780-1781, 1783-1784, 1786-1788; and one document listing the supplies and operation of the HMS Kingfish[er], 1775.

Includes militia payrolls and supply vouchers related the the Chesapeake Incident, 1807-1812. Payrolls include name of soldier, rank, place of enlistment, dates of service, disbursement of rations, and rates of pay. Vouchers include the name of person to whom money is owed, amount, date voucher was submitted, when they were called upon, duration of service, regiment, and in some cases, debts owed to private citizens for use of their property by the militia. Private property typically used by the militia include debts paid for rations used, wagons, replacement wheels, horses, doctors care of sick soldiers, treatment by surgeons, and enslaved persons use for manual labor. Localities mentioned in these records include: Accomack, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greensville, Hampton, Henrico, Isle of Wight, Leesburg, Louisa, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Norfolk, Northampton, Petersburg, Portsmouth, Richmond City, Smithfield, Southampton, Warwick, and Williamsburg.

These volumes are comprised of daily entries of revenues and expenditures, many of which document payments for Revolutionary War service and public service contributions. Individual entries include titles of funds or accounts, names of payers or payees, dates paid in or out, and amounts, and include payments for military service in the militia and Continental Line and for other military services rendered, relief payments to disabled soldiers and widows, interest paid on military certificates, and reimbursement for impressed property, as well as payments to individuals for civil services and to members of the General Assembly.

These records include reports and accounts in response to an "act of the General Assembly to ascertain the losses and injuries sustained from the depradations of the enemy of the Commonwealth." Summary reports include name, type of loss, and amount of loss, and a cumulative amount of losses for the locality. Supporting documentation includes accounts, affidavits, depositions, itemized lists and vouchers for individual losses. Losses may include slaves, livestock, tobacco, food, household items, boats, and the destruction of houses and other structures.

This series contains receipts from Galt for warrants issued to him for his work on the statue and the expenses of moving it from Florence, Italy, to Charlottesville, Virginia. Each receipt contains the date, the amount received, the name of the person from whom the money was received, and the reason for the payment.

A ticket was a promise to pay the county court clerk a fee owed him. This list was copied from the fee book of the clerk and turned over to the sheriff for collection.
