This collection (nine items) consists of Alexander S. Pendleton's Civil War papers, including:

• Military orders and dispatches directed to General Richard S. Ewell and others
• A note from Pendleton to his father concerning the death of General Stonewall Jackson in May 1863
• A request for a leave of absence
• Correspondence

An artificial collections of papers concerning the Blair family of Williamsburg. Includes land grant, 1741, signed by James Blair (1655-1743); document, 1768, signed by John Blair (1689-1771) concerning Loudoun County, Va. justices of the peace; depositions, 1787 and n.d., of John Blair (1732-1800) concerning a lawsuit in the Superior Court of Chatham County, Ga. (Margaret Eustace vs. Seth John Cuthbert) which concerned the estate of his brother, James Blair (1741-1772); deposition, November 24, 1786, of Patrick Henry in the lawsuit of Margaret Eustace vs. Seth John Cuthbert; and letter, 1792, of John Blair to Samuel Meredith concerning payment to Robert Greenhow. Commission from John Blair, Esqr President and Commander in Cheif (Chief) of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia, to Richard Dobson giving him permission to "enlist men for his Majestys Service for the Regiment forthwith to be raised and to be under the Command of the Honble William Byrd, Esqr..." Dated April 15, 1758 and signed by John Blair. Written during John Blair's first term as Acting Governor.

Broadside order written in Williamsburg by Brigadier General George Weedon on 6 April 1781, ordering Moss Armistead and John Slaughter to Portsmouth, Virginia to apply to the commanding officer of the British Army for exchange of prisoners and liberation of slaves.

This collection spans the military and civilian careers of Major General C. Ernest Edgar III. Included are files (arranged chronologically) that document every significant United States Army Corps of Engineers assignment. Included is information about:

• Overseas service at Heilbronn, Germany with the 237th Engineer Battalion (1958-1961)
• Vietnam War assignments (United States Military Assistance Command Vietnam, 1965-1966)
• Commanding Officer, 577th Engineer Battalion Construction (1969-1970)
• Commander and District Engineer, Little Rock District (1975-1978)
• Other stateside assignments

The Civil War Collection is an artificial collection of material, chiefly 1861-1865, pertaining to the American Civil War including items from both Union and Confederate forces. The collection includes official correspondence, general and special orders, descriptions of campaigns and battles, articles concerning the war, and artifacts. There are pardons, poems, songs, autographs, maps, muster rolls, pen and ink sketches of camp life, engineers' drawings, and a memorandum of signals used by Confederate steamers when approaching batteries.

The bulk of the Claudius Crozet papers are in French and chronicle Crozet's early years in France prior to his move to the United States in 1816. Included are letters, military orders, discourses on linguistics and grammar, papers pertaining to his marriage and family, and mementos relating to his daughter, Adele, who died in 1830.

Official military papers of Colonel Glen L. Shivel including congratulatory correspondence, citations, official awards, certificates, and his retirement records. Some records contain personal information and are closed to researchers at this time. Shivel also served as assistant professor at the College of William and Mary from 1966- 1970.

The Francis M. Boykin Civil War papers include:

• Two commission documents
• Extracts from military orders
• One letter from Governor John Letcher that orders Boykin to proceed to Grafton, West Virginia and communicate with Colonel Thomas J. Jackson (Stonewall)
• One letter bearing the signature of General Robert E. Lee

The papers of George K. Dakin concern his service in the Richmond, Virginia area during the Civil War. Dakin served in voluntary military service in the 1st New Hampshire Battery, from Manchester, New Hampshire, during the Civil War. The collection contains several Muster Rolls (in and out), certificates of promotions, official discharges, and a report written by Dakin's superior, F. M. Edgell, about certain operations of the 1st New Hampshire Battery.

The James D. Darden papers consist of the Darden's Civil War papers, including:

• Two military orders (dated February 28 and March 21, 1865) signed by Darden
• One Confederate States of America 5 dollar bill
• One list of clothing signed by Darden
• One bank note dated March 9th, 1865
• One typescript biographical sketch titled "Record of J. D. Darden"
