Collections

This collection contains black and white as well as color prints, negatives, and slides of photographs collected by the William & Mary Alumni Association for various events on the William & Mary campus. The bulk of the photographs concern events related to Homecoming including the parade, class reunions, and the Sunset Ceremony. The collection also contains photographs of Commencement, athletic events, photographs produced for the Alumni Gazette and other publicaitons, as well as the retirement ceremony for former president Davis Y. Paschall.

The records of the Alumni Association of the College of William and Mary include office files, material from select Executive Secretaries, meeting minutes, publications, correspondence, and other material documenting the activities of the William & Mary Alumni Association as well as the College of William & Mary's history and alumni more generally.

Contains scrolls signed by alumni during Homecoming in 2014 and 2016 at events held in the Blue Room of the Wren Building. The idea for the scrolls was initiated by Kevin Dua, the 2009 senior class president, after being inspired by the similar practice of signing scrolls during the Charter Day ceremony.

The scrapbook consists of loose pages compiled by Jim Campbell about the 50th reunion of the William and Mary class of 1925, the class's participation at Commencement in 1975, and the awarding of Alumni Medallions to Jim and Dorothy Campbell.

The collection consists of ten color slides. Eight slides are of William & Mary's 1961 and 1964 commencement ceremonies and were taken by George Blood, David Blood's father. David Blood was in the W&M Choir and required to attend the 1961 ceremony. The remaining two slides are of the Wren building and Robertson's windmill within Colonial Williamsburg, respectively. The Wren image was taken by David Blood in 1960, and the windmill was taken by David Blood in 1981.

Twenty-seven photographs and four newspaper clippings belonging to Emily Harrell Lynch, William & Mary class of 1942. Typical student activities are documented include sports such as football and Homecoming Parades, May Day, Christmas, initiations, college buildings, and other typical college activities. Box 1 contains the newspaper clippings and box 2 contains the photographs.

This collection contains news clippings, programs, publications, and other material collected by Jane Harrup Cogle, class of 1949 at the College of William and Mary. Included are programs related to the Tercentenary of William and Mary, The Royal Visit of His Majesty Charles, Prince of Wales to William and Mary in 1981, and Fehr Fest, the retirement celebration for Carl A. "Pappy" Fehr, director of the choir at William and Mary. Letters to Jean Harrup while a student at the college, newsclippings about the resignation of Gene R. Nichol as president of William and Mary, programs from The Common Glory, and records of the 50th Anniversary committee for the class of 1949 at the College of William and Mary in 1999.

The large oval portrait is framed within its original wooden frame with wood backing. The photo is mounted on a charcoal color board. There is a modern label on the back that says, 'Hortense Alexander, Homecoming Queen, Washington and Lee University, 1893.' The frame has a label for Smith and Allen Furniture, Ennis, Texas. There are four contemporary copies stored within the general prints and photographs collection. The original is stored in the hanging storage area of the Special Collections vault. Hortense Alexander was most likely from Texas.
