This collection consists of one letter (circa 1871) written by VMI Cadet Andrew L. Johnston to his mother. The bulk of the letter concerns family matters.
- Biographical / historical:

Andrew Langstaff Johnston was from from Richmond, Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1872 and went on to become a civil and electrical engineer. He built the first operational electric street railway in Richmond. Johnston died on May 17, 1901.
Johnston was the nephew of George K. Macon, VMI Class of 1866.
