Scope and content:

This collection consists of one scrapbook (1954-1958) compiled by VMI Cadet Lomax Gwathmey, Jr. that documents his cadetship. The scapbook includes:

  • Photographs of the VMI Class of 1948 Ring Figure
  • Photographs of President Dwight D. Eisenhower greeting VMI Glee Club members
  • Scenes from everyday cadet life
  • Programs
  • Clippings
  • Memorabilia
The scrapbook also includes two photographs dating from Gwathmey's tour of duty in Vietnam.

Biographical / historical:

Lomax Gwathmey, Jr. was born in 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated VMI in 1958 and went on to become an United States Army Officer. He died in 1970.
