Smyth (Va.) Capitation Tax Lists record by district for the years 1948, 1962, and 1964 the names of persons who have paid all state capitation or poll taxes for a particular year. These lists were required to be submitted to the circuit courts and the Auditor of Public Accounts.

Biographical / historical:

Smyth County was named for Alexander Smyth, a congressman from Virginia in 1832 when the county was formed from Washington and Wythe counties.

Acquisition information:
These records came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court papers from Smyth County.
