Account book, 1879-1885, of an unidentified blacksmith shop that records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in each entry includes date of transaction, type of transaction, item purchased or service rendered, amount owed or paid and form of payment. Items sold include bolts, horseshoes, and linchpins. Services rendered include adding or removing horseshoes, sharpening tools, mending axles, and repairing wagons. Payments made by cash, labor, and barter of items such as corn, beef, bacon, and iron. Account book includes an index that lists the names of customers in alphabetical order and the page number where their accounts can be found.
