The item is a field notebook of E. Meade McNeill, instructor of biology at Concord State Teachers College. McNeill's notes, part of which were published in the botany journal, Castanea, include plant life from the Shawnee Lake, Bluestone River, and Brush Creek Falls areas in Mercer County, New River area in Summers County, Cranberry Glades, and Seneca Rocks. McNeill became chairman of the Concord College Biology Department and was president of West Virginia Academy of Science, 1944-46.

Financial records, court records, and miscellaneous papers regarding the Given (Givens) family of Nicholas, Braxton, and Summers Counties, West Virginia. Financial records include various Braxton and Nicholas county tax receipts for William Given, Mehitable Given, Jasper Given, Theodore Given, Franklin Given, and Israel Brown from 1835-1883. Also includes various store receipts, promissory notes, and documents regarding property ownership. Court records reference the case of Sarah S. Woods and heirs of Jesse Young v. Jasper Given, and span the 1880s and 1890s. Miscellaneous papers include a 1876 teacher's certificate for Jasper Given in Nicholas County and notes on family births and deaths.

Glass plate negatives (forty-three items) documenting subjects in the area of Hinton, Avis, and Bellepoint, West Virginia. Includes pictures of the Hinton family (patriarch and matriarch were Silas Hinton and Mary Jane Charlton) and their associates. Other subjects include the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad, children in a carriage, a mill, and members of a baseball team, among others. Thirty-nine of these have been digitized; the rest were either poor quality or blank.

Typescript by John Hatcher, a Confederate veteran and West Virginia native, titled "Recollections of the Civil War 1861-1865". Hatcher served in the Confederate Army from August 1861 until he was taken prisoner in November 1864. Long, Frederick
Records and photographs documenting the history of southeastern West Virginia compiled by Summers County residents Fred Long and Stephen Trail. Many of the items were collected by a local newspaper, the Hinton Daily News (later the Hinton News). The collection focuses on the history of Summers County and Hinton from the mid-1700s to 2012, as well as the history of other areas in southeastern Virginia and western Virginia. Subjects include the town of Hinton, Hinton High School and Summers County schools, genealogy and family history, the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Railroad, archaeological and geographical features, other Summers County communities, wars, and other topics. Materials include a large quantity of photographs and negatives along with clippings, printed materials, ephemera, oral histories, maps, motion pictures, sound recordings, typescripts, manuscripts, and other types of materials. Many items are facsimiles of photos, documents, and newspapers.
