Letters and receipts document the business of dry goods store Cohn, Sampliner and Company in Wheeling, West Virginia, from 1875 to 1878. Records include notes of account debts and settlements and letters regarding dry goods purchases and returns. Products sold and purchased by Cohn, Sampliner and Company chiefly include items of clothing and sewing supplies, such as jeans, ties, ruffles, pants, shirts, yarn, and flannel. Letters and receipts are from customers, manufacturers, and other dry goods stores in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. They are arranged alphabetically by name.

Personal and business papers of Isaac, Albert, and Silas R. Davis, of Ohio and Marshall counties, West Virginia. Includes estate settlements, genealogical data, justice of the peace docket and broadsides. There is a Civil War loyalty oath for J.N. Keller, a War of 1812 discharge for Thomas Moore and an 1844 presidential campaign broadside for the Whig candidate Henry Clay.

This collection consists of a quarterly journal and copies of unrecorded Monongalia County, WV wills. The journal, Keyhole, a quarterly publication of the Genealogical Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania, features two articles which discuss West Virginia residents: "Unrecorded Monongalia County, West Virginia wills," Ruth E. Renton and Raymond Martin Bell and "McCollock of Ohio County, West Virginia," Raymond Martin Bell. In "Unrecorded Monongalia County, West Virginia Wills" the authors provide information concerning unrecorded wills of persons living in Monongalia County (present day Washington County, Pennsylvania.) The four unrecorded wills are Moses Cooper of Roxburg, Morris County, New Jersey, 1777 April 1; Benjah Dunn of Monongalia County, 1778 February 19; Stephen Ulery of Ten Mile Creek, Monongalia County, 1778 March 10; and David Wright of Monongalia County, 1778 August 26. The article also lists Charles McRobbins (alias Roberts) as Larry had a will written 1775 October 6. Copies of the unrecorded wills are included with the collection. Although these copies are copies of copies they are in excellent condition. Bell's "McColloch of Ohio County, West Virginia" discusses the genealogy of the McColloch family of Ohio and Hampshire counties.

Papers regarding West Virginia statehood and the history of Wheeling and Ohio County compiled by Judge Gibson L. Cranmer (1826-1903) of Wheeling, West Virginia, who served as secretary of the Wheeling Convention that repudiated Virginia's secession from the United States in 1861. Series 1 includes manuscript narratives and correspondence describing events of the West Virginia statehood movement, written by eyewitnesses at the request of Gibson L. Cranmer. Manuscript authors include John S. Burdett, John S. Carlile, Daniel Frost, Lewis Ruffner, and Benjamin Wilson. Series 2 includes Cranmer's handwritten notes, drafts of articles, copies of documents, and letters solicited by him regarding the history of Wheeling and Ohio County, West Virginia. Included are land and legal papers, 1760-1797, from Hampshire, Monongalia, and Ohio counties, mentioning Patrick Henry and Henry Lee. Also in the collection are: a leather billfold; estate papers and marriage records; stock certificates of early West Virginia public utility and industrial firms; and miscellaneous personal papers of A. Brooks Fleming.
