The papers of the Alexander familyof King George County, Virginiacontain ca. 2000 items (5 Hollinger boxes, ca. 1.75 linear feet), ca.1800-1890, consist of correspondence, financial, and legal papers. Most of the earlier papers are those of landowner Gustavus B. Alexander, and concern his dealings in wheat, corn, guano fertilizer, slaves, and land, as well as legal matters and business ventures. Later papers are those of his son, Charles G. Alexander, lawyer, justice of the peace, and schoolmaster, and deal with a variety of subjects, including King George County Schools, land surveying, meteorological observations, and slavery. Other subjects of possible interest include medical records and doctors' bills, tax records, and documents concerning St. Paul's Churchin King George County.

Scrapbook circaa. 1930-1943, compiled by Cassie Moncure Lyne in memory of her mother, Cassandra Oliver Moncure Lyne which includes prints, photographs, programs, pamphlets, and letters. Most of the material relates to United States history (especially the Civil War). The book also includes genealogical data on the Bushrod Washington, George Rogers Clark, Edmund Randolph, Parker, Custis, Moncure, Lyne, Baylor, Fitzhugh, and Lee families.

The collection also contains miscellaneous manuscripts and account books. Included in this material are: land grants, 1761 and 1766, for land in Fairfax and Frederick counties, Va.; eighty-five survey maps of Frederick, Fauquier, and Loudoun counties, Va. and Berkeley and Hampshire counties, W. Va.; road petitions, 1743-1828, for Frederick County; affidavits for Revolutionary War service; correspondence, 1923-1930, of the Improved Order of Redmen, Great Council of Virginia; letters written to W. H. H. Flick; account books of merchants in Frederick County, , Lexington, Va. and Harrisonburg, Va.; and account books of the Richmond Whig (1837), the Lexington Gazette; and the Southern Collegian (student newspaper at Washington and Lee College). There is also a daybook which contains copies of letters, notes and bonds written by Philip Nelson to Powhatan R. Page; notes on the Washington and Custis families and the building of "Arlington"; and notes concerning John Randolph of Roanoke and the Underwood Constitutional Convention in Richmond.

The collection contains the papers of Williamsburg resident Cynthia Beverley Tucker Washington Coleman and includes correspondence, Coleman's personal writings, various publications, legal and financial papers, and artifacts.

Portrait photographs of members of the Washington Family of Macon, Georgia and places connected with the family: Ellen Washington Bellamy, Judge Hugh Washington (brother of Ellen Washington Bellamy), Colonel James H.R. Washington with an autograph, home of Colonel H.R. Washington, family lot in Rose Hill Cemetery, and Washington Memorial Library.

Diary of Henrietta S. Fitzhugh of a trip. Includes letters concerning the diary, the Washington, Fitzhugh and Meade Families genealogy, news clippings concerning Washington land, Washington royal blood and family obituaries, pencil drawing of a Washington silhouette, letter with Fitzhugh/Meade genealogy information, Colonial Dames invitation to unveiling of tablet in memory of George Washington at Ravenswood, West Virginia (1932), and correspondence with Mrs. Archie Q. Brockenbrough of New York.

The collection consists of the research materials used by Dr. Lynch in writing The Custis Chronicles. Materials include correspondence; copies of wills, inventories and other documents; and articles and other publications about the Custis family.
