This collection contains five certificates of distinction awarded to Robert H. Fleming by the faculty of Washington College, now Washington and Lee University. They were awarded for study in mathematics, Latin/Greek/math, Greek, Latin, and English. They're dated June 18, 1868 and June 24, 1869.

The collection consists of two sets of handwritten notes on debates hosted at Washington and Lee, likely by way of the Graham Philanthropic Society, written by Robert John Bell during his time as a student at the University. The first debate centers on the effect of the construction of railroads in the South by "Northern Capitalists" (sic.), while the second one follows the state of education in the South after the American Civil War, particularly in regards to race relations and public schools.

Eleven papers written by Washington and Lee University alumnus Robert W. Hilton, Jr. (Class of 1939) and read to the Literary Club of Cincinnati, Ohio between 1973 and 1999.

These records include McAhren's involvement in Washington and Lee University's activities on three subjects: co-education (1970-1992); general education (1981-1983); and inclusiveness/diversity (1999-2002).

This register contains names of guests who visited the Rockbridge Baths, Virginia hotel between June 1871 and May 1882. Among them were many prominent faculty members of Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute, as well as guests from the city of Lexington, Virginia.

This collection contains a certificate of distinction in the study of mathematics awarded to R. P. Bowyer by Washington and Lee University on June 27, 1883.

Rupert Latture's address recalls highlights of the Class of 1915 at Washington and Lee University. It makes an extended analogy to Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story, 'The Great Stone Face.' It also includes humorous references to Washington and Lee President George Hutcheson Denny.

This collection contains two original manuscript copies and one photocopy of Samuel H. Chester's valedictory address given on June 27, 1872 at Washington and Lee University. It also contains correspondence about the presence of this address in the University's Special Collections and Archives.
