Autograph document in the hand of James Mercer, with an autograph signed note. With integral address panel addressed to George Washington Esq, "present." This memorial or petition was sent by Washington to Dunmore to request additional surveys of the Kanawha lands granted to Virginia veterans of the French and Indian War.

George Washington carefully drafted this elegant west elevation of his Mount Vernon mansion. It provides insight into Washington's plans for the second major expansion of his home. The elevation has wide doors and nearly symmetrical windows, while the final construction favored transom lights and the powerful exterior asymmetry of windows, preserving the symmetry of the interior rooms. The undated manuscript was probably drafted prior to construction, which began in 1774. This is the only extant exterior drawing of the mansion made by George Washington. On the verso, also in Washington's hand, is a floor plan for the mansion's cellar.

Claypoole's American Daily Advertiser [Number 1767, April 3, 1800] includes a character description of Washington from a London newspaper, The Courier featured on page 3, column 3-4. Says Washington was 68 when he died. Also gives his height as 5 feet 11 inches. An advertisement for artist Edward Savage's 'A New Exhibition, Gallery of Paintings..' is found on page 2, column 1. A portion of pages 3-4 has been clipped.
