Records of two West Virginia University literary societies. Columbia Literary Society Records include minutes books, 1861-1920 (4 Vols.); ledgers, 1873-1907 (2 Vols.); and roll book, dues record, and financial reports, 1906-1921 (1 Vol.). Records of the Parthenon Literary Society include minute book, 1895-1911 (1 Vol.) and roll book, dues record, and financial reports, 1907-1911 (1 Vol.). The collection also includes miscellaneous notes, lists, reports, and letters inserted between pages of these volumes. The formation of these Societies predates the establishment of West Virginia University on February 7, 1867. The Columbian Literary Society was established in the fall of 1852 (cf. inside front leaf of volume of Columbian Literary Society records, 1861-1873). The Parthenon Literary Society was known as the 'Monongalian up to 1872' (cf. p.[1] of volume of Columbian Literary Society records, 1861-1873).

There are also two volumes of scholarship statistics on WVU Medical students, 1932-64.

Includes dance cards and programs (1896-1932, 1951, undated); programs for school clubs, memorials, musical performances (1892-1931, 1965-1967); commencement programs and invitations (1875-1950); sporting event and concert tickets (1895-1975); student and university publications (1899-1963, undated); and other ephemera. Dance cards and programs pertain to various fraternities and sororities, the military department, student clubs, and general dances. Publications include student handbooks, a directory, and a November 1923 issue of the Athenaeum.

West Virginia University memorabilia consists of artifacts and other materials related to the history of the University. Items include pins, key chains, a mug, a pom-pom used in connection with a football game, metal ornaments depicting campus buildings, two hats (including baseball cap from ca. 1910-1920), dance cards, programs for various events and ceremonies, and a sign advertising a website where students participating in Commencement 2012 could share memories of their time at WVU (2012). Also includes one WVU greeting card from President Hardesty and his wife dating from circa 2000-2007, featuring three-dimensional pop-up of Martin Hall. There are many addenda in this collection, including artifacts such as beanies issued to male (blue with gold visor) and female (white with no visor) members respectively of the centenary class of 1971 (who were first-year students in 1967), a centenary badge, a class ring of WVU alumnus Barrent R. Kittle (1968), and a decorative plate commemorating the 25th anniversary of the four-year School of Medicine (1985). Addendum of 2018/10/03 consists of freshman beanie of 1973.

Records of the Laurel Chapter of the Mortar Board at West Virginia University, 1919-1979, include membership index cards, newsletters, a photo album, and two scrapbooks. The Mortar Board, a national honor society for college seniors, was established nationally in 1918 and on the campus of West Virginia University by 1919, according to membership cards. Index cards contain names and addresses of members. The Laurel Link newsletter, mostly from the 1960s, provides information about chapter projects, events, and alumnae. Photo album and scrapbooks contain photographs, programs, and other materials related to the chapter in the 1960s.
