This collection contains more than 100 broadsides published in the Confederacy between 1861 and 1865 from the Meredith Confederate Imprint Collection. The materials contain primarily official publications of the Confederate Government, most of which were printed in Richmond, VA.

Lt. Henry S. Kinsey Collection

Henry S. Kinsey was the Lieutenant of Company H of the 7th Iowa Veteran's Volunteer Infantry which fought for the Union during the Civil War. This collection contains the personal diary of Lt. Kinsey from 1864 depicting his and his infantry's experience. Most notably, his diary depicts General Sherman's successful campaign to take control of Atlanta. In addition to various written orders, this collection also contains Lt. Kinsey's records for clothing, equipment, arms, and ammunition from the 4th quarter of 1864 to July 1865 as the Company marched in Sherman's Savannah campaign and from there to Washington, D.C and back to Iowa once the war ended. Also documenting the end of the war are the company's muster-out rolls, a casualty summary, and records for a fund established and donated by the company to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, for the education of children of wounded and deceased soldiers.

This collection includes journals, scrapbooks, and photographs belonging to U. S. Naval Commander Horace Elmer (1846-98). He was an important naval figure who sailed on the USS Hartford's Asiatic mission, but significantly, the Monitor. This collection illustrates, through personal documentation, the experience of life at sea but also Elmer's immense skill and expertise in the US Navy in both mechanical and practical aspects. Information concerning his daughter, Edith Elmer Wood, a prominent progressive housing reformer, is also contained in the collection.

The final two series contain correspondence and ephemera unrelated to World War II that was included in the collection when purchased.
