Pittsylvania County (Va.) Board of Exemption Minutes, 1862, consist mainly of lists of persons who applied to be exempt from military service. Names of the persons applying are given; the reason given for the exemption (mainly disease, injury, or occupation); and the board's decision on the petition for exemption. Arrangement is by date of meeting. Accompanying each meeting is a list of the present board members. There is no index.

Pittsylvania County (Va.) Business Record, 1839-1845, is comprised of records of accounts of individual patients. The account list in chronological order charges and payments for visits to patients, medication, and other medical services such as extracting teeth, operations, and visits to ill slaves. Forms of payment include cash and credit.

Pittsylvania County (Va.) Lists of Black and White Families, 1782, 1784-1785. Consists of "List of number of people in each family," 1782; "List of numbers of white and black," 1782; "List of number of souls," 1782; "List of insolvents," 1784, 1785; "List of indentured certificates," 1785; "List of of white persons in buildings," 1785; "List of white people and improvements," 1785; and "List of white souls in houses," 1785. Some lists include both free and enslaved persons while others include only free persons. These records are arranged with lists of tithables and taxable property for Pittsylvania County, but some lists do not seem to have been collected for fiscal or taxation purposes, but simply as a head count.
