One United States Nickel, shield style, minted in 1870. The face of the coin features the worn remains of the shield from which this coin gets its name, as well as the minting date. The reverse side features a large "5" to demonstrate its denomination and is surrounded by 13 Stars, as well as the words "United States of America". 20.5 mm diameter. The shield nickel is in worn condition. Recovered by Robert Nelson Howard in 1926 on his property Bay View on Fish Neck in Dare, Virginia.
