Contains both official and personal correspondence of the family of Albert W. Raymond, an American volunteer ambulance driver who was taken prisoner of war by the Germans in France on May 15, 1940. He was held at the German prison camp for officers at Hoyerswerda, near Dresden. Among the correspondents are his wife, Helen, his daughter and son-in-law, Fred I. Raymond, and Alfred R. Thomson. Also included are the recollections of his capture, newspaper clippings, and photographs.

Letter, 3 December 1946, from Anna Koch, Frankfurt a.M., Germany, to her son Erich Koch, a prisoner of war (ISN31G, 130194 MI). Anna believed Erich to be kept in Camp Patrick Henry in Newport News. At the time of the letter she had not heard from her son since August 1944.

Two letters, 1944 and 1945, written by German prisoners of war from camps in Virginia (Camp Pickett and Camp Hampton Roads) to their families in Germany. Both letters are written on official prisoner of war form stationary and have been stamped by a U.S. censor. The letters are written in Suetterlin script.

This collection is comprised of more than 700 letters written by Herman Recht (1908-1971), a Navy yeoman, from Camp Peary (U.S. Naval Construction Training Center), near Williamsburg, Virginia, between October 1943 and February 1946, to his wife, Esther, in Clairton, Pennsylvania. There are no letters from Esther because, as he wrote her, saving them would make him homesick.

Diary, September 1942 to December 1943, of Hilda Haworth, a resident of Guernsey who, during WWII, was deported by the German army to a POW camp in Dorsten, Germany and later transferred to the POW camp Lindele in Biberach, Germany. Discusses the daily life in the camp, including food and accommodations, being separated from her children, illnesses, entertainment, different gender roles within the camp, anxiety about children who were left behind, excitement about mail, parcels from the Red Cross, and hopes for the war to end quickly.

Three Prisoner of War letters from World War II written in Italian. Two letters originated in Algeria (Orano) Camp #134. The third has an address listed as the Prisoner of War Information Bureau Provost Marshall's Office, POW camp M126, Washington, D.C. Letters are stamped or have markings indicating Prisoner of War Postage and also show stamps that the letters passed censoring protocol.

Collection contains materials related to the Camp Peary, Virginia, military installation and Singer's time there with his stepfather, Cmdr. Arthur C. Linden, USNR, and mother, Barbara E. Linden, during World War II.

72 letters from Kenneth James Kestenholtz to his family, usually addressed, "Sis and all", dated 1943- 1945. During World War II, Kestenholtz served as a Private in the 117th Stateion in the Philippine Islands and New Guinea in the South Pacific. Kestenholtz describes the weather, scenery, and wildlife of his Pacific surroundings. He also comments on food rations, particularly that they receive gum but no candy and only one pack of smokes per day. Most of his letters inquire about friends back home and consist of reports to his sister regarding friends he has heard from. Toward the end of his letters, Kestenholtz tells his sister of the large amount of Japanese prisoners his battalion takes in to their stockades but mostly refrains from reporting much about his activities at his station.
