James William McClelland V.P.I. Tableware, 1902/1904 0.4 Cubic Feet 1 box

The James William McClelland V.P.I. Tableware collection consists of one small plate, one medium sized plate, and a tea/coffee cup. The small plate is white with a maroon wreath in the center. In the middle of the wreath in yellow is a "VPI" overlapping letter logo with two crossing guns beneath it. Stamped into the bottom of the plate is "GREENWOOD CHINA TRENTON N.J." The medium sized plate is also white in color with "V.P.I.' printed on the rim of the plate in an orange brown color. Stamped on the bottom of the plate is "K T & K CHINA." The tea/coffee cup is white in color with the same design as the small plate on the side of it. It has a small handle with enough room to fit one finger through.

This collection consists of a handwritten recipe book belonging to Cora Bolton McBryde, as well as three peraonal artifacts: an anniversary plate, a Tiffany & Co. silver spoon, and a metal mold. Most of the materials are undated, other than the plate (1913), but they likely date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Cora Bolton McBryde was the wife of John McLaren McBryde, president of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College before and during the transition to Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (shortened to Virginia Polytechnic Institute). The pitcher and cup were added in 2018.

The collection consists of photographs, negatives, and glass plate negatives depicting Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI), Blacksburg, Montgomery County, and the New River area. Images are labeled with original labels, but undated. Where images were not labeled, a brief description is included in brackets on the envelope. The collection also includes eight painted views of campus photographed by J. Bolton McBryde (1866-1925), the son of fifth VPI president James M. McBryde, and likely hand-painted by his wife Mary Comfort McBryde.

Jones, J. Christopher (John Christopher), 1927-

This collection contains photocopies of the compiled writings of designer J. Christopher Jones. The collection includes copies of published articles, unpublished manuscripts, internal reports, and proposals concerning such subjects as streamlining, implications of automation, human error and accidents, and mechanization and design. The fifth volume in the series, titled "Dear Architects," consists of a set of open letters in which Jones addresses questions raised by students during his time as a visiting scholar at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's College of Architecture and Urban Studies.

Jimmie W. Monteith, Jr., Collection, 1933/1997 1 Cubic Feet 1 box

Monteith, Jimmie W., Jr., 1919-1944
Jimmie W. Monteith, Jr. (1919-1944) was a Lieutenant in the U. S. Army during World War II. He served his country bravely and was killed on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion of 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Collection consists primarily of his letters home during World War II. Also includes letters of condolence sent to the family following his death, congratulatory letters for being awarded the Medal of Honor, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Collection also contains the correspondence of his brother, Robert P. Monteith, letters of sympathy following the death of his brother and his father, Jimmie Sr., as well as other letters to and from some of his family members. In addition, there are the letters and notes of John Coulter, who wrote a biography about Monteith.
