The collection contains letters written to Adelaide Colcock from 1863 through c.1870, including five during the American Civil War. Collection includes three letters from her father, William F. Colcock, a prominent lawyer and member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, two letters from her sister Minnie, and one from her cousin Charles Colcock. The first letter from "Bubber Charlie" states, "The Yankees are a very bad people and won't let us alone." Adelaide Colcock was born September 3, 1858 and died August 1946.

This collection comprises the papers of Brigader General Adin. B Underwood. The papers contain photocopies of Civil War-era correspondence written to Underwood by his wife and sister-in-law and Underwood's written requests to his superiors for leave from duty. The collection also consists of Underwood's pension records, his pay and muster sheets from his time in the Union Army, and his wife's applications for a widow's pension after his death in 1888. This collection includes a short history of the Thirty-Third Massachusetts Infantry, Union Army, a unit with which Underwood served during the Civil War.

Stratton, that he kept while serving with Company D, 37th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry, during the 1864-1865 Siege of Petersburg, Virginia, during the American Civil War. The contents describe daily life as a soldier well and notes on contemporary 19th century society. Albert O. Stratton (1839-1915) was born in Leominster, Massachusetts. During the American Civil War he enlisted as a private in 1862, and was promoted to the rank of corporal by 1865.

This 1865 report by Alfred Seelye Roe (1844-1917) details his experience as a prisoner of war (POW) during the American Civil War. The document is a questionnaire from the Office of War Prisoners' Division of the New York Bureau of Military Record. Roe discusses his capture and general experience as a Union POW in Confederate prisons, primarily at Danville, Virginia. Roe served in Company A, 9th New York Heavy Artillery, in the Union Army and following the war was a school teacher, principal, historian, and state legislator in Massachusetts.
