This collection contains twentieth century records pertaining to the history of the Fike and Guthrie families of Preston, Monongalia, Mineral and Kanawha counties and their descendants, including the Nine, Fuller, and Casseday families. Topics include the family homestead, finances, religion, travel, education and careers. The collection features a variety of materials such as photographs, certificates and diplomas, financial records and correspondence.
Collection highlights include early twentieth century school portraits of classes taught by members of the Fike family, a guide to the rules and regulations of a women's residence hall at Fairmont State Teachers College (now Fairmont State University), circa the late 1930s, and signed dance cards from several fraternity formal dances from 1939 to 1941.
Organization:
Series 1. Fike Family, 1902-1996 (box 1) Family photos, correspondence, family trees and other memorabilia from members of the Fike family and their descendants.
Series 2. Guthrie Family, 1910-1987 (boxes 1 and 2) Family photos, correspondence, family trees and other memorabilia from members of the Guthrie family and their descendants.
Series 3. Distant and Unidentified Relatives, 1916-1959 (box 2) Photos of distant and sometimes unidentified relatives of the Fike, Casseday, Nine and Guthrie families.
Series 4. Education, 1908-1997 (boxes 2-5) Memorabilia such as class photos, report cards, school newspaper clippings, teaching certificates and school assignments from the Fike and Guthrie families' history as both students and teachers at various West Virginia institutions.
Series 5. Financial Records, 1908-1956 (box 4) Assorted financial records pertaining to the Fike, Guthrie and Fuller families, including check stubs, deeds and account ledgers.
Series 6. Miscellaneous, 1907-1962 (boxes 3 and 4) Various unsorted photos, financial documents, letters and other materials pertaining to the Fike, Guthrie and Fuller families. Also includes one folder of miscellaneous Harper family photos and correspondence. For more Harper material, see A&M 4281.
