Background

Scope and content:

Publications created by LGBT activist and owner of the famed "Lee's Mardi Gras Boutique" Lee Brewster, collected by Dr. Charlotte Hoelke. Brewster grew up in West Virginia. There are magazines, including Lee Brewster's Mardi Gras '72 Ball (1972), Drag Queen (ca. 1969-1974), and three issues of Lee Brewster's! TV's Getting Together (undated). There is also a copy of the book Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to be Girls inscribed by the author Veronica Vera to Lee Brewster (1999). Includes erotica. This collection is minimally processed.

Processing information:

The Library of Congress Subject Heading "Cross-dressers" was used for this collection as variations of the term "Transvestite" (or "TV") are used throughout this collection ("Transvestite" is listed as subsumed under this subject). It's also specifically used for cataloging Miss Vera's Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls by Veronica Vera, one of the items in this collection.

The subject heading "Transgender people" has also been added to represent current terminology and understanding.
