One artifact, consisting of a wooden walking stick owned by John J. Davis (1835-1916) gifted to him by his son John W. Davis (1873-1955). The top of the stick is capped with metal with the inscription "John J. Davis from J.W.D." John James Davis was an attorney and politician who helped found West Virginia and later served as a United States Representative in Congress from that state. His son John William Davis was an American politician, diplomat, and lawyer who served under President Woodrow Wilson; he was also the Democratic nominee for president in 1924, and lost to Republican incumbent Calvin Coolidge.
