Background

Scope and content:

Fred Mooney papers, ca.1935. 1 ms. Box and 1 bundle. Original manuscripts on "The Life of Fred Mooney, By Himself" and a scrapbook and newspaper clippings collected by Mooney. Mooney was a former secretary-treasurer of United Mine Workers District 31. A microfilm copy of the papers was made in 1961 and is filed under A&M 1428.

Additional: One folder of correspondence by or to Fred Mooney, 1938-1941. Includes typescript pages of Mooney's early life and family. Correspondents include John J. Lewis. Added 1968 Feb 29: One typed copy of the manuscript, "Struggle in the Coal Fields, The Autobiography of Fred Mooney" ed. by J.W. Hess, published 1967.
