Background
- Scope and content:
-
This collection consists of nine legal notebooks and a volume of bound correspondence. The legal notebooks are bound volumes designed for use in recording notes on different types of cases and legal terms. Each volume begins with an alphabetical case index that names the cases and terms dealt with in that volume and gives the page numbers where the material for each is written. The volumes overlap as to the cases and terms they discuss, but generally contain different references and definitions. There is no apparent order to them. Some are heavily used, whereas others contain only a few notes. The notes refer to standard law books and individual cases, sometimes noting fully the value and significance of a precedent or term, other times simply referring to a particular case or work for clarification. Some knowledge of the reference citation system used would be necessary for using the notes to refer to the sources. The bound volume of correspondence consists of letters to Robert L. Hogg from various insurance companies and associations, friends, and colleagues congratulating him on his appointment as Manager and General Counsel of the American Life Convention, September, 1944.
