Williams), a member of a prominent West Virginia family and the sister of WWI pilot Louis Bennett, Jr. Includes a copy of her will (1968) and a copy of the National Register of Historic Places Nomination Form (1984) for her residence in Wheeling, West Virginia, the Johnson Camden McKinley House or "Willow Glen". Background

Biographical / historical:

Agra Bennett (1894-1968) was the daughter of Louis Bennett, Sr. and Sallie Maxwell Bennett, wealthy and prominent citizens of Weston, West Virginia. Her brother Louis Bennett, Jr. joined the British Royal Flying Corps during World War I and was killed in action. Agra Bennett married Johnson Camden McKinley (1877-1927), a successful coal company owner, in 1914. McKinley built a grand mansion for his wife; it was called "Willow Glen" (now known as the Johnson Camden McKinley House) and located in Wheeling, West Virginia. After her husband's death, Agra Bennett was forced to file for bankruptcy due to the failure of McKinley's business ventures. She later remarried to a man with the last name of Williams.
