County court certificates showing that Spencer Dayton of Goshen, Litchfield County, Connecticut, was admitted to the bar of that state 15 April, 1864. A copy of the certificate of the Barbour County W. Va. Clerk showing Dayton's admittance to practice In the Circuit Court of Barbour County, 25 May 1847. This notes that Dayton had been licensed to practice law in PA. Household account book of Samuel and Isabella Woods, grandparents of Mrs. Arthur Dayton in Philippi, W. Va.
