Album of 39 portraits (black and white, and color) taken by Ray Stoker (1895-1975), a resident of Fairmont, West Virginia. The majority of the photographs are portraits of Stoker's wife; other subjects include other women, children, animals, and the artist himself. Background

Biographical / historical:

Ray(mond) Stoker was born and grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Stoker served in the army during World War I and afterwards studied art and photography. He married Gwineviere "Gwen" Utteridge and the family moved to Fairmont, West Virginia in the early 1920s. Stoker spent the next thirty years as one of Fairmont's leading artistic figures. Stoker left Fairmont in 1957, traveling around Europe and returning to his hometown of Philadelphia, where he died in 1975.
