Biographical / historical:

Citizens for Responsible Wind Power was born out of attempts by the Friends of the Allegheny Front and Friends of Blackwater to prevent wind power plant construction in West Virginia and the surrounding region beginning in 2002. The group was officially incorporated in 2004 as a coalition of organizations, businesses, and individuals. It had affiliations with the Friends of the Allegheny Front, Friends of Blackwater, Friends of Backbone Mountain, Stewards of the Potomac Highlands, Friends of the Appalachian Highlands, and Friends of Highland County. Their stated mission was to "ensure that industrial windpower complexes do not adversely affect citizens, local communities, and the public." During its operations between 2004 and 2008, and under the president of Linda Cooper, CRWP was active in opposing proposed wind turbines in Grant County, Greenbrier County, Putnam County, and Tucker County. The organization formally dissolved in 2008.
