This collection consists of the booklet by Rev. Frederick D. Goodwin entitled "A Sermon on Prental Unbelief: Preached by the Rev. F. D. Goodwin in Trinity Church, Staunton, December 15, 1839, by Invitation of the Sunday School Teachers of that Church and Published at their Unanimous Request." The booklet was printed by Kenton Harper, Printer, of Staunton, Virginia.

Biographical / historical:

Rev. Frederick D. Goodwin, born in 1804 in Norton, Massachusettes, attended Amherst College before he moved to Virginia in 1826. Goddwin graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of Virginia in 1831 and served in parishes in Maryland and Virginia. He married Mary Frances Archer, daughter of United States Army surgeon Robert Archer, at Fort Monroe, Virginia on 25 October 1837. The couple had nine children.

Goodwin served as rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Wytheville, Virginia from 1856 to 1866. He resigned from the pastorate in 1866 because of ill health but resided in Wytheville until his death on 26 March 1881 at the age of 77 years.
