Jacob H. Nelson, a charter member of the Max Meadows Chamber of Commerce, owned the Max Meadows Grocery during the early twentieth century. Nelson also worked as a foreman for the Virginia Iron, Coal, and Coke Company. He also was a member of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors.
