Background

Scope and content:

Journal, 1931, of C. M. Marquardt recording observations (in text and drawings) made regarding the technical aspects of mining while visiting a series of iron mines in the summer of 1931. Marquardt might have been studying mining at the time. Mines visited include the Ironton Mine; Newport Mine, near Puritan, Mi.; Montreal Mine, near Hurley, Wisc.; Wakefiled and Plymouth Mines; Puritan Mine; Susquehanna Mine; Sargen Mine, Minn.; Bennett Mine, Minn. and others.

Biographical / historical:

C.M. Marquardt's journal was found at a Sandy, Utah estate sale. The Social Security death index shows a Carleton Marquardt (1910-1977) of nearby Salt Lake City. At the time he wrote in his journal in 1931, he would have been 20-21 years old and possibly a student in the field of mining.Further information about this individual or organization may be available in the Special Collections Research Center Wiki:http://scrc.swem.wm.edu/wiki/index.php/Marquardt.
