Scope and content:

Working papers and correspondence of Estie Stith Crabbe in preparation for a book on the genealogy of the Stith Family, Hardaway Family and collateral families. Includes research notes, typed transcriptions of research material and correspondence with professional genealogists, researchers from her family and Stith Family members from all over the United States. Estie Stith Crabbe typed transcriptions of much of her research, including many letters she received from researchers and Stith Family contacts. Some personal correspondence and papers are included.

Biographical / historical:

Estie Malinda (Stith) Crabbe was born March 12, 1887 in Jasper County, MO to James Richard and Ophelia Haynes Stith. She married Benjamin Franklin Crabbe in 1920 in Seattle, WA. She died May 1982 in Seattle, WA. She spent much of her adult life researching her Stith Family and collateral lines.

Custodial history:

Laura Stith Strike received the collection from her father's estate and gave them to the Irving Public Library, Texas. Irving Public Library gave them to William and Mary Libraries because of a Stith Family connection with the college: William Stith, was the president of William and Mary from 1752–1755. Irving Public Library informed the Stith family of the donation.
