Background

Scope and content:

Collection concerning Wesley B. Tanner of Ann Arbor, Michigan which includes a signed greeting card designed with a wood block illustration, two copies of a bibliography of his products through 1990 as well as an article about him. Also includes a 2006 Christmas Card printed by Wesley B. Tanner.

Biographical / historical:

In 2009, Wesley B. Tanner was the web designer for the Department of Biological Chemistry at University of Michigan. Before coming to the School of Medicine he was on the faculty of the University's School of Art & Design for fifteen years, where he taught graphic design. Prior to coming to University of Michigan, he taught printing history for the School of Library Science at UC Berkeley.

Wesley is also an respected book designer; he maintained a design and printing practice in Berkeley, California for twenty years until moving to Ann Arbor in 1991. For his activities as a artist, and as a publisher of finely printed books, he has been honored with one man shows at the San Francisco Public Library, UCLA, University of Michigan, Minnesota Center for Book Arts, and in 2008 at the King Library at the University of Kentucky.
