Background

Scope and content:

The Martin C. Mathes papers is composed of drafts, research notes, correspondence and booklets related to Professor Martin Mathe's professional works including the publication "The Planting of a Campus Tradition: A History of the Landscape of the College of William and Mary." The collection also includes correspondence related to the preservation of Lake Matoaka and green space of Crim Dell as well as two booklets by Professor Mathes entitled "Collection of Woody Species." Audio-visual materials entiled Campus Landscapes are also included.

Biographical / historical:

Martin C. Mathes was a professor in the Department of Biology at William & Mary. His appointments were: Associate Professor of Biology, 1967-1974; Professor of Biology, 1974-2001.
