This collection contains files of Nelson Marshall, while serving as Dean of the College. The Dean of the College was the spokesperson for the needs of the faculty of Arts & Sciences. The name of the office changed to Dean of the Faculty upon the resignation of Nelson Marshall in 1951.
- Biographical / historical:

Nelson Marshall was a Professor of Biology at William & Mary. He received his B. S. from Rollins College, his MJ. S. from The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He served as Dean of the College from 1949-1951, when he resigned in protest against the hiring of a non-academic as president of William & Mary, Alvin D. Chandler, whose hiring did not include faculty participation.
