Background

Scope and content:

Diary, 1946-1947, of a 68 year old maid in Seattle, Wash. For excerpts provided by the seller, click on the Finding Aid link below. The following description has been provided by the seller and has not been verified.

"Marten seems to be registered with an agency which places her in various jobs, none of which she is happy with. She mentions illnesses and other problems, talks about what she cooks, mentions movies and other entertainments, things she buys, seems to read a lot, goes to the Tournament of Roses parade, goes to the races, goes on some vacations. Her birthday is May 21. She must go through 15 different jobs, staying at some only a few days. (For example, in 1947 she quits a job 1-18, starts another 1-26, quits 1-29, new one 2-5 and stays till 6-1, new job 6-25, quits 8-7, new job 8-19, fired 9-9, new job 11-19, quits 12-27, starts new job 1-1)."
