Background

Scope and content:

Records of the Capital Club of Williamsburg (formerly named the Middle Plantation Club of Williamsburg), which was founded by Rawls Byrd in 1966. The collection includes organizational histories, membership directories and rosters, meeting minutes, scrapbooks of club events, and other material.

Biographical / historical:

The Capital Club of Williamsburg (formerly named the Middle Plantation Club of Williamsburg) was begun by Rawls Byrd in 1966. The club was composed of men approaching or at retirement age and its purpose was to promote sociability, good fellowship and recreational activities. The organization's name was changed in 2020.

Acquisition information:
Gifts via the Williamsburg Historic Records Association. Acc. 2010.016 was received in January 2010 through Will Molineux. Acquisition information for material received after 7/13/2009 is available by consulting a Special Collections Research Center staff member. Acc. 2016. 042, flash drive data, was received on 3/10/2016.
