The collection is comprised of the personal papers of William & Mary alumnus of 1940, Virginia Forwood Pate. The materials in the collection relate to Pate's active involvement with class of 1940 alumni activities, mainly the Society of the Alumni, the class of 1940 fiftieth reunion, the class of 1940 merit scholarship. Also included in the collection is general correspondence, issues of the Parcel Print, newsclippings related to William & Mary, and a vinyl record recording of a 1959 performance by the William & Mary Choir.

Virginia Forwood Pate was born August 10, 1919 and graduated from William and Mary in 1940 with a degree in English. Virginia founded the Chesapeake Broadcast Company in 1948 with her first husband, Jason Thomas Pate. She gave a presentation for William and Mary's Career Speaker Series in 1982 about her time and experiences in broadcasting. In 1969 she was awarded the Alumni Medallion. She was a member of the William and Mary Society of the Alumni and participated in planning the fiftieth reunion of the class of 1940. In 1972, she married Edward Wetter and changed her name to Virignia Wetter. Virginia died September 18, 2018 in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
