Embossed text alludes to and highlights the pain, suffering, remembrance, and betrayal endured by the victims and survivors of the 1939-1945 Jewish Holocaust. "Her work is inspired by the dynamics of life's paradoxes and explores themes related to the Holocaust, addressing issues of victimization, empowerment, identity and memory. It is based in a variety of media ranging from large scale drawings, installations of handmade paper structures, collaborative installations, experimental book structures and small editions of artist books. The book format allows Karen to encapsulate ideas within intimate interactive structures while remaining consistent with her vocabulary of drawing and handmade paper"--Center for Book Arts website.
