Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of the Stony Point Road Association of Charlottesville, Virginia. The papers include minutes, correspondence, financial records, printed material, maps, and newspaper clippings.

The group was originally founded as the Stony Point Historical and Protective Association to try to prevent the Highway Department from making Route 20 North (the Stony Point Road) a highway which would connect federal highways I-64 and I-95. Its name was later changed to the Stony Point Road Association when it opposed the proposed Cason landfill site on Route 20 North. In both cases, the group's efforts were successful. Other related topics of interest to the group included trash recycling and waste management.

Acquisition information:
The Stony Point Road Association papers were given to the Library by Miss Muriel C. McMurdo of Charlottesville, Virginia, through Connie Kelly, on June 25, 1980.
