Scope and content:

This accession consists of six items, 1897-1908, pertaining to John Warwick Danielof Lynchburg, Virginia, and a telegram, November 14, 1884, addressed to Robert D. Yancey, Lynchburg, Virginia, from Page McCarty, Washington, D.C.The five letters and telegram to Daniel, who served as a U.S. Senator from 1887 to 1910, are primarily requests for assistance. Included are a request to sponsor a bill to increase the pension of a parent whose son died after eating poisoned rations issued by the government; a request for assistance in obtaining the position of secretary and disbursing officer to the Commission to attend the international exhibit in Parisin 1900; a request to speak at a banquet; a thank-you letter; and a letter concerning a controversy over the construction of the Library of Congressbuilding. Correspondents include U.S. Senator Daniel Wolsey Voorhees, A. F. Howard, Hunter N. Kern, Dr. Samuel L. Hammon, Alfred de Zerega, and V. A. Witcher.
