Background

Scope and content:

The AFPNP collection includes exam materials such as proctor lists and writing assignments from 1977 through 1992. Meeting minutes and reports from 1974 to 1993 cover such topics as training, curriculum, standards, continuing education, conceptual models and funding. A variety of documents help to outline the relationship with NAPNAP and other organizations.

Biographical / historical:

The Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Inc. is a national organization of nursing educators who teach in pediatric, family and school nurse practitioner programs, and who collaborate on relevant practice and educational issues. The purpose of the organization is to foster quality interdisciplinary education of pediatric nurse practitioners. The organization began in 1972 at the University of Connecticut, where PNP faculty from across the country gathered to establish curriculum guidelines. In 1978, after a meeting to discuss PNP national certification in Iowa City, Iowa, the organization emerged with clear goals and purposes, which have evolved with the continuing challenges that PNP educators face. The group has been meeting annually since 1978, holding its meeting in conjunction with the yearly NAPNAP conference. The AFPNP has authored and updated the document, Philosophy, Conceptual Model and Terminal Competencies for the Education of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

Arrangement:

Box 1 contains correspondence related to the accession followed by exam materials. Box 2 includes presentation and meeting notes. Box 3 contains materials that are primarily focused on curriculum planning. Box 4 includes mostly meeting minutes and reports.
