Background
- Scope and content:
-
The Pat Booth Woodard Collection assembles a variety of documents relative to the theory and practice of Nursing education at the University of Virginia School of Nursing in the late-1960s to mid-1970s. Included are two versions of a faculty statement outlining the values and objectives of Nursing education in 1968 (folder 001) and 1975 (folder 011). Several detailed and extensive course syllabi address the fundamentals of nursing and health care relative to adults, children, and families. Also included are more specific materials concerning neurological and pediatric nursing. A catalogue of audio-visual resources documents the variety of teaching materials and subjects supplementing traditional classroom instruction during the period, and a copy of the constitution and bylaws of the faculty organization details the governing framework and faculty committees of the Nursing School. The collection contains in addition several pamphlets on nursing procedures, a sample of "Raymond's Pectoral Plaster," and an important pamphlet published by the Graduate Nurse Association of Virginia in 1924 seeking support for establishment of the Sadie Heath Cabaniss Chair of Nursing at the University of Virginia.
