Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of photographic prints and negatives created by Peter V. Lacouture. They document the following events at the University of Virginia: the Moratorium of Peace (October 15, 1969), Senator George S. McGovern's Address to the University of Virginia community (October 10, 1969), and the "May Days" student strikes (Spring, 1970).

The University of Virginia Law Library made digital copies of the photographic materials in this collection.

Biographical / historical:

Peter V. Lacouture is a 1972 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. During his time at the school, Lacouture helped to produce the Virginia Law Weekly. In 1969, he began his tenure there as a photographer. Later, in 1971, he served as one of the newspaper's two executive directors. While working at the Virginia Law Weekly, Lacouture documented events at the University of Virginia including the 1970 "May Days" student strikes.

On May 8, 2014, Peter V. Lacouture donated this collection to the University of Virginia Law Library.
