Augustus Julian Requier letter, MSS 16368, November 23, 1867, 0.04 cubic feet, sending his contribution to the Southern Society periodical and asking to be sent copies of the issues in which it will be printed.

Biographical / historical:

Augustus Julian Requier (1825-1887) was a Southern poet and lawyer born in South Carolina. In his porfesional legal work, he served as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Alabam and took the same position under the Confederate government. The poetry he wrote during the Civil War supported the Confederacy. After the war, he lived and worked in New York City.
