Mary Helen Detmer is an author of poems about her farm in Brown Cove, Albemarle County, Virginia. She is married to Don Detmer who was the Vice-President for Health Sciences at the University of Virginia. Don and Mary Helen delighted in living on Thomas Jefferson's famed "Lawn" at UVA, where they hosted annual pumpkin-carving parties for UVA students who also lived on the lawn and where they were often awakened by shrieking students engaged in the tradition of "streaking" down the lawn.
