Biographical / historical:

The Virginia Spectator was a student-run newspaper that was sponsored by the Jefferson Society. The University of Virginia Magazine became the Virginia Spectator early in the 1935-1936 session. The Spectator was shut down in the 1950s by the president of the university due to obscenity but was revived briefly in the late 1960s.
