Biographical / historical:

The New River Valley Environmental Coalition (NRVEC) was a non-profit organization that was active from 1990-1997 that promoted environmental preservation by performing environmental surveys and reviewing the environmental impact of legislation. The members of the NRVEC gave important testimony regarding zoning issues, the Smart Road, and the 765 KV Power Line. They worked with the Blue Ridge Environmental Network, Virginia Environmental Network, and the Sierra Club, and participated in regional conferences including the New River Round Table at Concord College in Athens, WV where they advocated for the preservation of rivers. The NRVEC also lobbied local government on regional environmental issues.
