Scope and content:

The David Wilbur Peters Official Papers contain materials related to Dr. Peters' time as President of Radford University between 1938 and 1951. The collection is seperated into two categories: official papers and VPI Consolidation Papers and Correspondence. In the category of official papers this collection houses items such as information on conferences attended by Dr. Peters, biographical materials on the same, assembly programs, information about the cirriculum and the construction and dedication of Ingles Hall. Also found in these papers are printing charges for the Beehive yearbook, faculty memoranda, various performances and programs and information on Catholic Church attendance. As well as information on various organizations such as the Workers Progress Administration, Sororities and Fraternities and the State Board of Education.

The second category of materials deals with the Radford/VPI merger, which was overseen by Dr. Peters. Biographical / historical:

Dr. David Wilbur Peters was president of Radford College from 1938 to 1951. He was born in Franklin County, VA, and obtained his undergraduate degree at Roanoke College, then received M.A. and P.h.D degrees from Columbia University. Dr. Peters visited Radford on several occasions before his appointment as president in 1938 due to his membership of the State Department of Education. His professional career also included various administrative and teaching positions in Campbell County and Richmond. During his years as president, Dr. Peters oversaw the transition of Radford to the Women's Division of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and guided the school through vast post-World War II growth.
